Steve Bennett initially ran for State Assembly in 2020 with a recognition that the window to effectively address climate change was rapidly closing. His first climate change effort focused on improving renewable energy storage capacity, which is an essential step to achieving the goal of 100% renewable energy.
Asm Bennett has prioritized climate adaptation and resilience through bills like AB 367, which requires Ventura County to have enough backup water supply to handle wildfires, and this year’s AB 1986, which would incentivize CA residents to harden their homes against natural disaster. In addition, he has authored bills that would have:
- Created a framework to help farmers who want to convert their fallowed agricultural land to solar fields
- Required all hydrogen used and produced in California to be green by 2045
Currently, he serves as Chair of Budget Subcommittee 4: Climate Crisis, Resources, Energy, and Transportation, and the Chair of the Select Committee on Building a Zero-Carbon Hydrogen Economy – both vital committees in the fight against climate change.
Asm Bennett has demonstrated a tireless advocacy for climate and environmental legislation and we are pleased to endorse him for re-election.
