Councilmember Jackie Elward is an educator who found a second calling as a public servant. After her election to the Rohnert Park City Council in 2020 (and then as mayor), she quickly proved her mettle as a climate champion unafraid to take risks for the sake of her community.
Councilmember Elward led the effort to ban new gas stations in Rohnert Park, and consistently supported renewable power expansion, building electrification, transit oriented development, climate resilient housing, and environmental justice-centered planning. She also serves as Vice Chair of Sonoma Clean Power, overseeing the expansion of community access to an affordable, efficient, carbon-neutral grid.
If elected, Elward has promised to continue her bold climate leadership by authoring legislation to phase out fossil fuel extraction, invest in wildfire prevention (and insurance protections for people and businesses), and expanding incentives for electrification and grid modernization.
She believes that climate funding should be viewed as core infrastructure spending, like roads and schools. Climate Action California wholeheartedly agrees with this and is happy to endorse Elward for election to the Assembly.
*NOTE: CAC is endorsing multiple candidates in this race. CAC only endorses candidates we believe will be strong climate legislators, and in this case more than one candidate met our criteria.
