AD 19: Catherine Stefani

Catherine Stefani

As a member of the San Francisco County Board of Supervisors since 2018, Catherine passed legislation that prevented all new construction and major renovations of municipal buildings from using natural gas and requires them to exclusively use all-electric energy sources. In the Assembly, Catherine will work to expand upon legislation like this to expand green building adoption. Previously, Catherine fought alongside community members, worked on legislation and spoke out at committee meetings to finally close down the polluting Potrero Power Plant in San Francisco, and helped to prevent a new power plant from being built.

Catherine’s priorities include mitigating coastal issues arising from sea level rise, and the need to reduce transportation emissions.  Various other practices should also be implemented to curb emissions, such as investing in reforestation, prescribed burns and other wildfire management practices, and improving our urban planning and transportation practices so that we are not unnecessarily building out into natural lands. We must also address methane emissions from livestock by implementing methane reduction strategies.

Catherine wants to see a just transition also for our community, and will work to support well-paying, diverse climate jobs. Climate Action CA believes her climate advocacy will be an asset in the Assembly.
