Due to term limits, 2027-2028 will be Assembly Member Ash Kalra’s final term in the legislature. Over the past ten years, he has been one of the foremost advocates of clean energy and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. He has also authored numerous bills designed to preserve our open spaces, conserve threatened and endangered species, and protect critical habitat.

Asm Kalra was a cosponsor of the 2025 Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act (AB 1243), which would have required fossil fuel polluters to pay their fair share of the damage caused by greenhouse gases. He has also authored influential bills to reduce single-use plastic in the hotel industry (AB 1162), protect migratory birds (AB 454), and phase out toxic and inefficient fluorescent bulbs (AB 2208). In 2026, he is also an author of AB 2243, which, if passed, will create a state banking commission with at least one member who has expertise in climate or infrastructure finance.Climate Action California is endorsing Ash because he has consistently shown himself to be a dedicated environmental leader.
