AD 26: Tara Sreekrishnan

Tara Sreekrishnan

Climate Action California recognizes Tara Sreekrishnan as a strong millennial voice and advocate for the environment. She will work with the legislature to champion change and push for climate solutions. Tara is a current member of the Santa Clara County Board of Education where she leads the effort to advocate for environmental issues across member schools and activate youth to push for change. She has served on several local nonprofit boards and co-founded Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action which has empowered hundreds of students across Santa Clara County to combat climate change through impactful classroom education and policy initiatives.

Tara champions the need for California to aggressively draw-down carbon and move to a renewables economy. Her priorities include transitioning to solar and wind, EV adoption, sustainability, and green buildings.  Of particular note has been her effort to highlight the massive emissions of the Santa Clara Lehigh Southwest Cement Plant, and move the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to dramatically increase oversight of the plant’s emissions reductions with a goal toward eventual closure.

Tara has participated in the legislative process directing State Senator Cortese’s climate legislation. She served as a top aide and advisor to him in the state legislature and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, drafting and passing a range of legislation. She has served in the role of Policy and Outreach Director and Chief of Staff at the County level and as Legislative Director, Communications Director, and Deputy Chief of Staff at the State level. Given these efforts and her established skills, Climate Action California believes that Tara is ready to step up to a leadership role in the Assembly.
