Steve initially ran for State Assembly in 2020 with a recognition that the window to effectively address climate change was rapidly closing. His first climate change effort focused on improving renewable energy storage capacity, which is an essential step to achieving the goal of 100% renewable energy.
Some of the climate bills Steve has authored since then include:
- Creation of a framework to help farmers who want to convert their fallowed agricultural land to solar fields
- Requiring all hydrogen used and produced in California to be green by 2045
