Dr. John Erickson is a community organizer, nonprofit executive, and public servant. In 2014, he joined the council staff as a deputy and in 2020 he was elected to represent West Hollywood as a City Councilmember, and then as Mayor.
In those roles, Councilmember Erickson successfully reduced the city’s carbon footprint and created model programs that significantly reduced reliance on water usage and energy. He has also built coalitions with communities in the 24th around climate change-related issues through his work as VP of CA Contract Cities, a director of the Clean Power Alliance, and director of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission.
Erickson main climate priorities are:
- accelerating wildfire prevention and mitigation
- incentivizing green jobs
- expanding urban tree canopies
- investing in resilient infrastructure that protects frontline communities
- Protecting our coastline and endangered species
- bringing together environmentalists and energy producers to work together for cleaner air and water
The 24th District includes the communities affected by the Palisades Fire, and Councilmember Erickson has vowed to support rebuilding in a way that is both sustainable and equitable.
Climate Action California believes that Councilmember Erickson will be an exceptionally robust climate champion in Sacramento who is sensitive to the needs of his constituents and adept at building bridges. We are pleased to endorse him for election to the California Senate.
