SD 10: Scott Sakikihara

Scott Sakakihara

Councilmember Scott Sakakihara spent nearly a decade as the chief of staff of the finance department for a major Silicon Valley tech company before pivoting to public service. Since then, he has proven himself to be a dedicated advocate for effective climate solutions.

That’s because he believes that climate action and affordability go hand in hand. After being elected to the Union City Council in 2022, Sakakihara led efforts to prioritize and update his city’s climate action plan, helped expand their electric bus fleet, increased resources for solar energy, recycling, and composting, and secured funding for public transit and bike lanes. He also sits on the Ava Board (formerly East Bay Community Energy), where he works to deliver 96% carbon-free energy, and expand solar battery and electric car charger incentives.

If elected, Councilmember Sakakihara has said he will focus on the climate-and-affordability overlap. Specifically, he wants California to build more housing near transit and jobs, invest more in public transportation, accelerate building electrification, defend and strengthen emissions standards, and expand clean energy and resilience investments. He also supports legislation to make polluters pay for the damage they have caused to people and the environment.

Throughout his tenure as a public servant, Councilmember Scott Sakakihara had demonstrated a commitment to strong climate leadership, and Climate Action is pleased to endorse him for State Senate.

*NOTE: CAC is endorsing multiple candidates in this race. CAC only endorses candidates we believe will be strong climate legislators, and in this case more than one candidate met our criteria.
