energy transition. Before joining the California Assembly, he served as the Chief of Staff to State Senator Marty Block, and was an environmental planner at the firm EDAW, working with local governments to update land use policies and law, and conduct environmental review.

After his election in November 2020, Asm Ward quickly got to work on legislative action to benefit the climate. For example, he was the author of AB 30, which improved forecasting for climate change-related weather events and AB 2316, which improved customer choice and access to community solar power. This year, he is the driving force behind AB 1684, which would prevent HOAs from standing in the way of efficient HVAC upgrades.

Asm Ward’s legislative leadership has earned statewide recognition, including the 2024 “California Legislative Champion” award from SEIU, 2023 “Distinguished Legislator” award from the League of California Cities, 2022 “Labor Superhero” award from the California Labor Federation, and the 2022 “Community Solar Champion” award from the Coalition for Community Solar Access.

Asm Ward has been a powerful voice for climate in the Assembly, and Climate Action California is proud to endorse him for re-election.
